Our local arts organizations lie at the intersection of culture and community. They unite audiences together, introduce us to new ideas and challenge us to approach the world in new ways. At the helm of each organization is a fearless leader with a clear vision for how we should integrate art into our daily lives.
Join us Tuesday, July 12, at Liberty Station for the next installment of Meeting of the Minds, an evening of fast-paced presentations. Produced in partnership with Art Career Café, we are bringing together a diverse group of arts leaders with visions that are pushing boundaries and engaging the community with bold new ideas. Talks begin at 7:00 p.m.
Confirmed speakers:
David Bennett, General Director of the San Diego Opera since 2015, has already changed the face of San Diego’s opera scene with events that are designed to engage a contemporary audience with a traditional art form.
Dalouge Smith, President and CEO of the San Diego Youth Symphony, a 70-year old classical music training organization, has embarked on a brave journey to bring music to every student in San Diego County.
Elizabeth Doran is the new leader for San Diego Theatres Inc., the presenting organization behind the Balboa and Civic Theatres. She’ll share her vision to bring relatively unknown but powerful and longstanding arts organization into the 21st century.
Russ Sperling, took the helm of the Visual and Performing Arts Director of San Diego Unified School District in 2015 and is dedicated to rebuilding the “VAPA” program after years of recessionary stand still.
Ginger Shulick Porcella, is the newest director of the 75-year-old San Diego Art Institute. Through programs like Parkeology and Project Space, Ginger has been experimenting with taking art beyond SDAI’s walls.
Kathryn Kanjo was recently named Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and will officially take the post this Fall. Her new appointment comes at a time of change as MCASD will soon expand its La Jolla campus.
