Oldest litigant of Ayodhya dispute Mohammad Hashim Ansari passes away
The oldest litigant of Babri Mosque Ram Janmbhumi dispute of Ayodhya, Mohammad Hashim Ansari has passed away. The 96 year old Ansari, who was ailing for sometime due to heart-related ailments, breathed his last at his house in Ayodhya. Born in Ayodhya, Ansari’s father was a tailor who owned a shop in the Shringar Haat area.
Ansari had been associated with the Babri mosque dispute case since December 1949 but had filed the case in December, 1961 along with six others about the disputed matter. He had recently praised PM Narendra Modi for his vision and style of functioning and had appealed him to resolve the matter in his own lifetime. Allahabad High Court in 2010 in its majority verdict allotted one-third of the disputed site in Ayodhya to Nirmohi Akahara. The other two-thirds portion has been given equally to be shared by the Waqf Board and the side representing Ram Lalla. Soon after the verdict, Ansari had called for burying the dispute and making "a fresh start".
