Parliament passes bill for afforestation fund
Rajya Sabha has passed the ‘Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill’ which seeks to unlock more than Rs. 41,000 crore earmarked for afforestation works but is lying unspent since the last four years. The passing of theCompensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) Bill will lead to setting the process to unlock Rs. 42,000 crore to be utilised by the States for afforestation.
The Lok Sabha had passed the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill during May this year which envisages the establishment of a National Compensatory Afforestation Fund and also a State Compensatory Afforestation Fund.This fund has been accumulated out of money received for diversion of forest land towards industrial use across the states.
