1) - Nissan X-Trail Hybrid

Expected Price: 30 - 35L
Nissan X-Trail Hybrid is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.

Earlier shown at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid is on its way to the showrooms here in India. While Nissan India officially sold the first and the second generation of the X-Trail, the brand never had the current-gen model (introduced in 2013) up until now. The third-gen model, in fact, will be introduced in the eco-friendly hybrid form.

Exterior -:On the outside, the X-Trail Hybrid looks quirky and striking thanks to the high-set hood and the ‘V’ chrome accent on the grille. Also improving the road presence are the striking pair of headlights featuring LEDs. In profile, the X-Trail remains calm and features subtle design curves. The delicately flared wheel arches and minimal cladding all around lend a very functional look to this car. Lastly, the rear-end design, though not as impactful as the front-end, looks attractive with those nicely detailed taillights and a big tailgate.

Interior -:Interior wise, the dashboard is angled towards the driver and has a distinct ridge flowing across the top half that moves on to the door pads. The unique looking three-spoke steering wheel gets a silver accent which matches those on the centre console and the door pads.

Engine and gearbox -:The India-bound X-Trail is all about its clever drivetrain. There’s a 2-litre, in-line 4-cylinder petrol engine paired to a 31kW electric motor for a total power output of around 180bhp. All that power is sent to the road via Nissan's Dual Clutch Control. This hybrid arrangement is available in Nissan’s front-engine, front-wheel-drive cars only which means the forthcoming X-Trail Hybrid will not feature all-wheel drive. The X-Trail Hybrid will be introduced as a fully imported model which is why we are expecting it to cost well over Rs 30 lakh. Now even though that is expensive, buyers would be pleased to know there is nothing quite like the X-trail Hybrid as it’s the first ever luxury hybrid crossover to be sold in India.

Preview -:
Expected Price: 5.50 - 8L
Tata Bolt Sport is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.

Tata Motors showcased the Bolt Sport at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It will be the first hot hatch from the carmaker’s stable, and will be launched in India under the company's new performance brand. This new model is the performance-oriented version of the Bolt hatchback and offers more power and a sportier look than the version currently on sale. It is likely to be introduced in India by the end of this year.
Exterior -: In line with the new sporty design language, the Bolt Sport gets a new grille, projector headlamps and a sporty body kit with new rear bumper as well. The 17-inch alloy wheels are newly designed. Apart from the body kit and side skirts, the Bolt Sport also features sleek air vents on the front fenders, continuing the sporty theme. At the back a roof spoiler, a brush metal strip on the number plate and a new bumper with a pair of diffusers can be seen.
Interior-: There are changes to the interior as well which include a black leather upholstery with contrasting red stitches and accents, sunroof, Harman touch-screen infotainment system with voice recognition and SMS readout, etc. On the safety front, the new model is equipped with speed-dependent volume control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), corner stability control and dual airbags.
Engine and Gearbox-: The Tata Bolt Sport will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine seen under the regular version of the Bolt and Zest. However, the mill for the Bolt Sport is tuned for higher performance, and churns out 120bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox that sends power to the front wheels of the car. Just like the Bolt on sale now, the Bolt Sport also offers multi-drive options - Eco, City and Sport.
Price and Competition-: At present only a few hot hatches are available in our country. The Bolt Sport will up the game and go up against the Volkswagen Polo GT, Punto Abarth, the upcoming Active i20, Datsun Redi GO etc. It might be priced in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh when launched for the Indian market.

3 ) - Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV

 Preview -:

Expected Price: 5 - 6L
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R MPV is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.

Maruti Suzuki currently sells only the Ertiga as an MPV in the Indian market. With an intention of providing an Indian consumer with a cheap entry-level compact MPV, the manufacturer is developing another seven-seater vehicle based on the Wagon R. This vehicle is expected to be launched as the third generation of the WagonR in 2017.

Exterior-: The company will want to avail the excise duty benefits for a car of length under four metres, which will eventually help them price the car aggressively. With that in mind, the manufacturer will keep it under four metres in length and make changes to the design of the Wagon R accordingly. The tall-boy design hatchback has enough space in the cabin and the manufacturer should not find it much difficult to incorporate the third row of seats in the new MPV.

In terms of external appearance we don't think the manufacturer might bring in extensive changes and rather stick to the current styling that is quite widely accepted in our country. Nevertheless, the carmaker will borrow design cues from the seven-seater concept of the Wagon R showcased at the Indonesia International Motor Show in 2013. The distance between the C and D pillars of the concept exhibited at the event was increased showing a larger glass window between these pillars.

Interior-: The Wagon R is gets a fairly decent interior and we can expect similar treatment to the cabin of the upcoming car. The major change will be the accommodation of the third row of seats which will be possible due to the space created by increasing the distance between the C and D pillars. With a slight variation in cabin and headroom, the company will create more space for the last row and by equipping the car with more utilitarian features, the practicality of the car should definitely go up.

Engine and Gearbox-: At present, the Wagon R is powered only by the petrol engine, but we expect the manufacturer to also start employing the diesel mill with the advent of this compact MPV. The current three cylinder 998cc K10B series engine produces 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque which might seem an underpowered option for the bigger car. The 83bhp 1.2-litre petrol motor and 74bhp 1.3-litre diesel powerplant from the Swift can be a good option for the Wagon R MPV.
Price and Competition-: The Wagon R has been a successful model for Maruti Suzuki and is considered as one of the most practical cars in the Indian car market. With the addition of the third row of seats, the company might increase the practicality aspect further. The new seven-seater Wagon R will go up against the Mahindra Quanto and the upcoming Datsun Go+ and should also serve as an economical alternative to the Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Hyundai i20 crossover and even the Toyota Innova in the MPV segment of cars. If priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, we think the car has a major potential to be a hit especially in the rural market in India.

4 ) - Volkswagen Polo GTi

 Preview -:

Expected Price: 20 - 22L
Volkswagen Polo GTi is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.

If a Volkswagen gets the GTi badge, it has to be a hatchback and it has to be fast. The GTi badge has been associated with hot hatches since decades and finally, it will come to India, officially. The first GTi to be brought here is the Polo GTi, a souped up 3-door version of the Volkswagen Polo.

Exteriors-: Well, it is a Polo. While the headlamps remain the same (with a possibility of DRLs being integrated) while the grille and the front bumper are new. It gets a mesh grille with the GTi badge perched on the left corner. The bumper is sharper and also gets a wide mesh grille with integrated fog lamps. While the side profile remains same, the rear doors have been ditched. The tail is the same except for the twin pod tail pipe that stands out.
Interior-: The GTi will be based on the Highline variant of the Polo. It gets height adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable and folding mirrors and cruise control. The 2-DIN music system has USB, AUX and Bluetooth compatibility. The interiors are black with a flat bottom sporty steering wheel with steering mounted audio controls.

Engine and Performance-: Well, this is the most exciting part for the enthusiasts. It gets a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Octavia churning out at least 180bhp of power. While it gets the expected DSG automatic gearbox, enthusiasts will certainly be grinning as a manual transmission option will also be offered. The Polo GTi hits the ton from standstill in under seven seconds.

Price and Competition-: The Polo GTi will dethrone the Abarth Punto to be the most powerful hatchback except for the Mini Cooper S and is expected to be priced over Rs 20 lakh. In that case, the BMW 1 Series, Audi A3 and the Mercedes A-Class are also within the reach for someone who is not performance focussed.

5) - Hyundai New Elantra

upcoming-cars-info

 Preview -:

Expected Price: 15 - 16L
Hyundai New Elantra is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.
The Hyundai Elantra has emerged as a steady seller in the slow moving D-segment in India. Known for its stylish looks and fancy equipment, the Elantra has been able to sell itself as a good option for Indian car buyers looking for a premium sedan. The Korean car maker has now decided to replenish the Elantra’s appeal by bringing in the next generation Elantra, also known as the Avante in global markets, to India in August.
The Elantra will continue with the fluidic philosophy of design but the curves are a bit conservative when compared to the existing car. Built on a new platform, the Elantra will be wider and longer and gets the horizontally slatted hexagonal grille in the front. The headlamps are projector units and have embedded LED DRLs with boomerang shaped mesh vents on the air dam housing the fog lamps. The coupe-ish roofline continues into the chiselled boot which now gets beautiful tail lamps inspired from the Elite i20.
The cabin will be in beige and black hues unlike the black with silver accent interior of the global car. Hyundai is known to stuff its cars with a feature list that stumps the competition and the new Elantra will continue with it. Push-button start, rain-sensing wipers, auto dimming internal mirrors and electrically foldable wing mirrors and more such gadgets are all expected to be a part of the standard equipment. The top-spec car gets ventilated front seats – something that even some of the premium executive sedans miss out on.
The India bound car is likely to debut Hyundai’s new 130+ bhp 1.6-litre GDi engine. Hyundai will also continue to offer the Elantra with existing 1.6-litre diesel engine. The four cylinder turbocharged engine develops 126bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. The CRDi engine may be tuned for better power delivery and torque and both the petrol and diesel engines will be offered with a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox options.
The new Hyundai Elantra will continue to compete with the other D-segment sedans like Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Volkswagen Jetta. As for the price, there will be a marginal increase on the tag and is expected to be around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

6)-  Jeep Wrangler

upcoming-cars-info

 Preview -:

Expected Price: 25 - 32L
Jeep Wrangler is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative.

After years of anticipation and waiting, Jeep will finally arrive in India at the Auto Expo 2016. The iconic American SUV maker will officially bring the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler to India as fully imported vehicles. While the Cherokee is a full on luxury SUV, the Wrangler is a no frills off-roader with butch looks and power to match the appearance.

Exterior -: Launched in 1986, the Wrangler is currently in its fourth iteration. It’s the spiritual successor to the iconic Willys Jeep which in turn is the basis of design for a host of Mahindra SUVs. This means that the Wrangler bears a familiar yet far more muscular appearance and that should aid Fiat’s goal of launching the vehicle here.
Interior -: The Wrangler is all about utility and toughness and these traits are apparent in the way the interior has been designed. The whole look may be quite utilitarian but Jeep has added modern touches in the form of comprehensive instruments, a touch screen display, steering mounted controls, climate control and the lot.
Engine and Gearbox -: The Wrangler will be launched in the long wheelbase four-door variant. It will be powered by a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine with 281bhp of power and 353Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox
Competition -: The Jeep Wrangler will be sold as a niche product in the Indian market which means it will be sold at a premium. While it has no direct competition in sight, the Wrangler will be positioned in a space which includes premium soft-roaders like the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3.
