Sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra breaks cover at Rs 12.99 lakh

Hyundai Elantra

It sure took a while but Hyundai has finally launched its first car this year in the form of the sixth generation Elantra. The sedan has been priced at Rs 12.99 lakh for the base petrol variant while the top-spec diesel automatic will set you back by an amount of Rs 19.19 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi).

On the outside, the sedan gets a complete makeover from its predecessor thanks to the Korean carmaker's new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. The hexagonal grille with horizontal slats imparts a unique identity to the car's front fascia with the sharp headlamps further accentuating it. Crisper lines running on the sides gives a streamlined look to the new Elantra. It also gets a fresh set of alloys and broader tail lamps.

With the new platform, the sixth-gen Hyundai Elantra is also wider and longer than the outgoing model. On the inside, the car comes with plush leather upholstery and a host of other features, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with USB, AUX-In, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), dual-zone climate control and electric seats with ventilation for the front.

At the heart of Hyundai's next-gen sedan is an all-new 2.0-litre petrol powerplant that is rated at 152PS and 186.32Nm. Powering the diesel Elantra is the familiar 1.6-litre pot that churns out 128PS of power and 260Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic form the transmission options on the new Elantra.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is set to challenge the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze, the Volkswagen Jetta, the Skoda Octavia and the Toyota Corolla Altis for supremacy in India's D-segment.
