Rani Nair set to be new CBDT Chairperson


Senior IRS officer Rani Singh Nair is set to be appointed as the new Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairperson with incumbent Atulesh Jindal retiring. Nair, a 1979-batch Indian Revenue Service officer of the Income Tax cadre, is presently working as Member (Legislation and Computerisation) in the Central Board of Direct Taxes, the policy-making body of the I-T department.

Nair has been instrumental in framing the procedures and protocols that led to the roll out of the IDS on June 1 this year that aims to fish out black funds from the domestic arena. CBDT has six members apart from the Chairperson and is responsible for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the Income Tax department.
