First LIGO lab outside U.S. may come up in Maharashtra’s Hingoli
The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) project that was given the in-principle approval by the Union Cabinet may come up in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district. It would be third such laboratory in the world, first outside the United States. The existing laboratories are located in Hanford, Washington, and in Livingston, Louisiana.
On February 17, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given in-principle approval to the LIGO-India mega science proposal for research on gravitational waves. The project would cost up to Rs 1200-1300 crore.
So let's discuss some questions related to this post:
1. Expand the term LIGO?
2. The LIGO project that was given the in-principle approval by the Union Cabinet may come up in which district?
